How Do I Check My Medicare Status?

You’ve filed your Medicare enrollment forms and now you are waiting to see a status update. You don’t have to wait for a letter in the mail or an email to crawl into your inbox. So how do you check your Medicare status then? Medicare enrollment can be through the Social Security Administration online, over the phone or in-person. Once the application is submitted, you can check on its status in your “My Social Security” account by visiting the website mymedicare.gov and check the enrollment page of your account. If you check your status online, you’ll see:

  • The date your application was received
  • Any requests for additional documents
  • The address of the Social Security office processing your application
  • Whether a decision has been made about your application

There are several ways to check the status of your application, even if you don’t want to check it online. You can visit your local Social Security office. Or you can call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Keep in mind when you are asking yourself, “How do I check my Medicare status?” that you aren’t talking about Part C, Medicare Advantage. Part C is offered by private insurance companies and Medicare will not know the status. You’ll need to contact the private insurance company for Part C status.
